Aretha Franklin is teaming up with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for a benefit concert later this month. Though the partnership seems, well weird, Franklin confirms that Rice is more than talented on the piano.
“Rice is a consummate classical pianist. Since I sing the arias, I thought that we could do something, a bipartisan effort for our favorite charities,” Franklin said.
Turns out, this isn’t the first time that Ms. Rice has publicly played the piano. At 15, she played with the Denver Symphony and, in the past, performed with cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
The duo will perform on July 27 at Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts. As a national ticket broker, GreatSeats.com has Aretha Franklin tickets for this unique event, and other great duo outings like James Taylor and Carole King, and George Strait with Reba McEntire. Rice will be performing works by Mozart and more, and Franklin will be performing songs from her new album, A Woman Falling Out of Love.

Aretha Franklin was scheduled to perform as a part of this year’s New Orleans Jazz Festival. About 24 hours before she was set to take the stage, she let festival organizers know that she would be unable to perform.
Franklin has not released any further information and it remains unclear as to the reason why.
Luckily, festival organizers were able to fill her spot. Earth Wind & Fire were scheduled to perform near by and have offered to step in. The group performed at last year’s festival receiving great response from festivalgoers.

The Queen of Soul gave a select group of family, friends and local reporters and celebrities a sneak peak at some of the new music from her forthcoming album, Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love. The lucky crowd convened in a downtown Detroit restaurant for the listening party.
Franklin says the new release was inspired by an ex-relationship. The result is a dozen songs, including one juicy track featuring a sexy smooth recitation by actor Billy Dee Williams that Franklin says is “sizzling!
The new album, due out in late March, is executive produced by Aretha, who also wrote and produced a few of the songs. Aretha Franklin tickets and a tour surely can’t be far behind.

Aretha Franklin is scheduled to perform the second weekend of The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival!
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, dubbed Jazz Fest, is held April 23-25; April 29-30; and May 1-2. What began at a small square in New Orleans in the 70s has now grown to fill an entire arena.
Though it’s held in New Orleans, it offers more than Cajun music. Performers like Anita Baker, Aaron Neville, the Allman Brothers, Darius Rucker, Steve Martin, Better Than Ezra and Average White Band will be performing in 2010 on one of 12 stages.
Jazz Fest food is also a treat for the palate. Sure, it might be a festival, but the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation (who puts together the festival) has a strict ‘No Carnival Food’ rule. With more than 70 food vendor booths, festival-goers can expect to get the very best Cajun food in Lousiana with dishes like crawfish beignets, cochon de lait sandwiches, alligator sausage po’ boy (sandwich), boiled crawfish, softshell crab po’boy and crawfish Monica, according to the festival’s official Web site.
In addition to music and food, there are also several craft vendors that maintain booths in three separate areas of the arena: Contemporary, Congo Square or Folk.

And what would the celebration be without Aretha Franklin?
The anniversary shows, held at the Madison Square Garden on Oct. 29 and 30, will feature Franklin, along with Lenny Kravitz and Annie Lennox, on the second night. Other big-name performers include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Stevie Wonder and Simon & Garfunkel on the first night, with U2, Eric Clapton and Metallica the second.
