Aretha Franklin to be honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Once you’ve been admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, there’s not many more awards to strive for. But Aretha Franklin is adding more honors to her belt as she’s given a week-long spotlight as part of the hall’s American Music Makers series.
The 69-year-old Queen of Soul said she was “thrilled and delighted” to be the subject of the week-long celebration. The event, held by the hall and Case Western Reserve University, runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 5 and includes an all-day symposium and an all-star tribute concert.
Past guests who have had this honor include Les Paul, Janis Joplin, Bessie Smith and Woody Guthri. Performers for Franklin’s series have yet to be announced.
Earlier this year, Franklin was the subject of an undisclosed medical scare, though she underwent surgery and is back on the concert scene. Aretha Franklin tickets are available for Sept. 24 for the Fashion On Ice show are the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. She’s also got gigs lines up for Oct. 7 in Prior Lake, Minn.; Oct. 16 in Durham, N.C.; Oct. 19 in Nashville; and Nov. 17 in Houston.
